If you’ve ever used a three-screen PC setup at work or at home, you’ll know all about how the gaps between the screens and the bezels of each monitor really ruin your immersion in whatever you’re doing. For users of such a setup, those gaps are a common complaint.
At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in the US, ASUS took the wraps off of its solution to that specific problem: two lenses that hide monitor edges and refract light in such a way that a three-screen setup appears 100% contiguous. Like so:
In other words, they hide monitor bezels and ensure no air gaps appear between screens, creating a single, flowing (and really wide) screen surface on which to enjoy games. Or spreadsheets and other more productive pursuits, if that’s your thing.
It’s called the Republic of Gamers Bezel-Free Kit, and it’s due to be available for purchase in the US later this year. ASUS didn’t mention a specific release date, a price, or whether it would be available in every region ASUS products are sold at the show, but at least we know it’s an actual product and not just a snazzy prototype.
The only other caveat is that you’ll need three identical ASUS monitors for the Anti-Bezel Kit to work, as ASUS created the kit specifically for its ROG Swift PG258Q and Strix XG258Q screens. No word yet on whether other sizes are planned, or if the kit will work with non-ASUS monitors.
For now, though, it’s an undeniably cool idea that we hope gains traction, enabling seamless three-screen setups that are cheaper than splurging on a single 34- or 49-inch curved screen.
