Blizzard Entertainment’s big BlizzCon conference took place this past weekend, and Cisco put out a release reporting that their networking expertise was the reason behind the event’s rock-solid network performance.
The BlizzCon network performed flawlessly, servicing over 40,000 people live at the conference and many millions more who tuned in over the internet.
Says the press release , “Over the two days, there were more than 1,000 machines running, more than 40,000 people attending in person, and over 10 million people watching the livestream online.”
That’s a significant win, because BlizzCon is a huge event with fans all over the world watching every minute of it, and flawless network performance under those circumstances is not a nice-to-have, it’s a necessity.

The mere fact that Blizzard chose to partner with Cisco for its BlizzCon network says everything you need to know about Blizzard’s confidence in Cisco’s ability to deliver.
“BlizzCon is a critical event with die-hard Blizzard fans that requires a robust network infrastructure to support,” said Systems Engineer Josh Dahl.
“There are over 250 Catalyst switches, ASR 9000 border routers, 3800 Access Points, Nexus 9000 data center fabric, and Webex Teams coupled with API integration for collaboration. All of this was set up with automation within a two-week timeframe.”

Blizzard Entertainment is the company behind gaming mega-franchises Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, Hearthstone, and Overwatch, and its fans expect a lot.
With Cisco’s network in place, gamers at the event experienced low lag, fast downloads, and rock-solid reliability, and the millions who tuned in remained connected to their streams all the way through the event.
