Our people love a challenge, even outside of work, which is why three of our own have entered a challenging new mountain biking event called Race to the Sun that’s taking place on Saturday the 25th of May.

The three Tarsonians who will be flying the Tarsus banner on the day are TTG CEO Miles Crisp, Tarsus On Demand’s Charles van den Akker, and Tarsus Distribution Product Manager Gemma Shales. Shaun Berndt from the HP IPG division was also going to participate, but a recent cycling injury ruled him out.

“I am doing it because I need a goal that I am a bit scared of in order to stay motivated to keep fit,” says Miles Crisp.

“167km off-road on a mountain bike is a long way in one day, and no-one can finish this event without the necessary training. It also helps with the motivation to know that we are doing this to raise funds for our very own Tarsus Carefund. Knowing that our people will benefit directly from our efforts makes the sense of achievement all the better.”

Advendurance

The event’s inaugural race happened last year after an intensive four-year planning period by renowned outdoor adventure event organisers, Advendurance.

Here’s a video showcasing what last year’s riders went through:

This year’s Race to the Sun starts at Hartbeespoort Die Oewer. The race will take riders on a route that winds its way through 167km of picturesque but challenging terrain, including areas like the Brits canals and various farms and townships toward Rustenburg.

Riders will have to contend with gravel, dirt, mud pools and tar roads, as well as steep hills that will really stretch their strength and stamina. The finish line is at Sun City (it’s a race to the “sun”, after all), ensuring riders get the full experience of the area’s rich topography, and end the race on a high.

For a good cause

Miles and his fellow riders are raising funds for the Tarsus Carefund, a fund set up to give financial assistance to Tarsus employees who need it.

Good luck to all riders! May your Race to the Sun be a good one!
