On the 9th and 10th of February, Tarsus On Demand’s Rudi Craps will be swimming in the upcoming Midmar Mile PinkDrive event, in a laudable bid to raise some cash for breast cancer awareness.
Rudi’s raised funds will helping PinkDrive keep their fleet of mobile units and educational vehicles on the road that help South Africans detect and fight cancer. To date, they’ve conducted over 16 000 mammograms, performed more than 130 000 clinical breast exams, and educated more than 390 000 people on breast health.
Every cent earned goes towards PinkDrive’s awareness campaign, which helps to save lives with early cancer detection.
Midmar Mile x8
This specific PinkDrive event is a variation on the Midmar Mile, where competitors swim the course multiple times. Rudi is going to be swimming it EIGHT TIMES, for a total of THIRTEEN KILOMETRES, all in a striking pink Speedo, and all for a fantastic cause!
This isn’t Rudi’s first time competing in a tough event like this; since 2015, he has participated in many different sporting events in a bid to be more active, from park runs to swims to bike races.
Celebrating 4 years
Rudi told us, “Coming from an overweight background and being a life-long asthmatic, sports have changed my life. This year, I decided to celebrate my fourth year of being active by swimming an eight-mile event for the PinkDrive charity organisation, and in so doing hopefully touch someone’s life and possibly help save a Father/Mother/Child from cancer.”
Within six months of being more active, Rudi was not only more fit and feeling better than ever, he managed to lose a very impressive 20kgs. Since then, he hasn’t looked back, and the PinkDrive swim is just the next event on his very busy athletic calendar.
Says Rudi, “The satisfaction of not only surviving [The Dischem Sun City 1.5km swim], but also finishing within cut-off times meant that I was more capable than I ever believed before. It’s a fantastic feeling!
“And since I was swimming Midmar anyway, I thought that I can surely do more training and put in a bit extra, not only for myself and my achievement, but also for a more meaningful cause that could possibly even touch and improve someone else’s life in the process.”
Rudi has already raised more than R2 000 on his own for his chosen charity, and Tarsus Distribution will be holding a shavathon/sprayday fundraiser event on the 22nd of February to help him smash past his R12 000 goal.
How to support the cause
We’re giving staff the opportunity to shave or spray their heads for R30, the proceeds of which will go towards supporting Rudi. We’re holding the event in the vape area, outside the second floor next to Tarsus On Demand and Printacom.
And for anyone who doesn’t fancy shaving or spraying their hair, we’re happy to accept donations online (click here).
So mark it in your calendar and bring your bucks, it’s for a fantastic cause! Help Rudi smash his goal and feel great in the process!
