Last week, Samsung unveiled its very latest range of consumer Smart TVs at its First Look event that was held in New York.
The offering consists of five QLED models, two Premium UHD, and two UHD models, and quite impressively, quite a few of the models shown off at the New York event will shortly be available in South Africa via Tarsus Distribution.
Key features of the QLED and Premium UHD TVs is that they include integration with Bixby, Samsung’s AI-driven personal assistant, allowing viewers to control some TV functions with voice commands.
Perhaps the most interesting (and genuinely innovative) feature of these new TVs is Ambient Mode, a display technology that mimics what smartphones do when not in use by showing off select information to passers-by, like weather conditions, time and date, and notifications.
But that’s not all: these new TVs can blend into their environments with a little help from a photo taken by a smartphone that tells Ambient Mode how to adjust. “Ambient Mode can mimic the pattern on the wall behind the TV to create an astonishing visual effect in which the TV blends seamlessly into the wall”, the company said in its official release. See exactly how that will work at this point in the video you see embedded below.
Samsung also confirmed that all of their 2018 UHD TVs will come with High Dynamic Range capabilities – perfect for people interested in seeing how the technology makes their movies and games (played on supported consoles like the PlayStation Pro and Xbox One X) look even better by dynamically adjusting contrast and colour on the fly to create a more immersive and realistic viewing experience.
