Games control better, look better, and play better on a powerful PC equipped with high-end components that are good for gaming.

But that’s not all, everything else you do on a PC is faster as a result, too, because more RAM, more CPU cores, and a powerful graphics chip have knock-on benefits for general operating system and app performance.

However, gaming notebooks have traditionally been quite expensive; Dell’s Alienware brand, for instance, is known for its raw performance but also for being more aspirational than everyday-affordable.

So Dell has built models within its Inspiron range that expand on its gaming offerings; they are highly capable of both work and play, but without the Alienware-level price tag. The latest of these are 15.6-inch and 17-inch SKUs from the Inspiron G-series, and they are available now from Tarsus Distribution.

Dell often takes the good-better-best approach with their systems; in this case the 3000 series represents “good” and the 5000 series represents “better”, each with variations in their hardware and OS configurations that deliver performance at those levels. “Best”, though, is still up to Dell’s Alienware gaming products.

These G3 and G5 notebooks are powered by 8th-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, and feature either 8GB or 16GB of RAM, Windows 10 Home or Pro, SSD/HDD options of 128GB or 256GB paired with and 1TB 5400 RPM mechanical drives for data. They all come standard with 1080p anti-glare LED-backlit displays.

The graphics chips powering these are NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX1050/1050Ti and GTX1060; even though these are considered mid-tier graphics chips, they are able to sustain games’ frame rates at playable levels, although a few sacrifices might need to be made in quality settings, game-dependent.

The model options and hardware configs are as follows:
