MyBroadband has put together a fantastic article that’s all about solid-state drives, how they improve system performance, what to do if your system doesn’t have one, and more. Spoiler alert, the answer is to get one and at the very least use it as your operating system drive.

The post explores the difference between regular hard drives and SSDs, why SSDs are faster and how that benefits system performance, their various interfaces, and the different form factors you’ll find them in.

SSDs aren’t all the same, of course – there are different memory technologies from different vendors, different ways for them to plug into your system, and they vary in terms of price, connection method, and performance.

All of that, and more, is covered in the post, and it’s a well-written, informative, and highly entertaining read.

Tarsus Distribution carries Samsung’s excellent EVO solid-state drives. The latest of these is the EVO 970, which replaces the excellent EVO 960 series with drives that are mostly the same, just a bit faster and with a new 5-year warranty (versus 3) and longer endurance.

As Rock, Paper, Shotgun writes on the 970, “…you get a five-year warranty instead of three, and its endurance rating has been raised exponentially across every capacity, offering between 150 terabytes written (TBW) on the 250GB model and a massive 1200TBW on the 2TB one. Compare that with the 960 Evo’s endurance range of 100-400TBW across 250GB-1TB and that’s a lot more reassuring for today’s would-be NVMe buyers.”

For more information on these drives, or to place an order, contact Tarsus Distribution’s Samsung SSD guy, Charl Van Den Berg, on 011 531 1000, or send him an email.
